Engraving and etching; printed on paper; hand coloured | Scale: 1:5,000 approx. | RCIN 733068

A plan of the Battle of Manila, 6 October 1762. Seven Years War (1756-63): Anglo-Spanish War (1761-63). Oriented with north-east to top. This plan is similar in virtually all respects to RCIN 733067, and may have been copied from it, or another example of it.

The successful British combined operations attack on the Spanish stonghold of Manila on 6 October 1762 was commanded by Brigadier-General William Draper (1721-87) and Rear-Admiral Samuel Cornish (c.1715-70). The Spanish opponents were commanded by Archbishop Manuel Antonio Rojo del Rio y Vieyra (1708-64; Governor-General of the Philippines) and Simón de Anda y Salazar (1701-76). The action was fought during the Anglo-Spanish War (1761-63) which was, in turn, a part of the Seven Years War. The city was returned to the Spanish after the Treaty of Paris (1763).
