A medium/high oblique view of the naval bombardment of Copenhagen by the English, Swedish and Dutch fleets on 20 and 26 July 1700. Great Northern War (1700-1721). Oriented with north-west to top.
This bombardment, by the Maritime Powers (England and the Dutch republic) resulted in the Denmark-Norway alliance withdrawing from the war in August 1700. It was described in the London Gazette (Issue 3622, 25-29 July 1700) from the Danish point of view: ‘they [the three fleets] fired about 130 Bombs, of which ‘tis said only five fell in the Danish Ships …The Danes at the same time fired from several Bomb-Ketches and from a great flat-bottom’d Vessel which lay before their Fleet with divers Pieces of great Cannon planted thereon; but the Execution was not great on either side..
