This map is a much later copy of Thomas Sandby's map at RCIN 730028. There are small differences of details, such as the omission of a group of trees which is to be found on RCIN 730028. The handwriting is somewhat similar to Thomas Sandby's ‘unofficial hand’ but cannot be identified as his with any certainty. The earliest example of a ‘J Whatman’ countermark, as found on this map, apparently dates from 1760 (Balston 1957, p.159; cited in Harris et al., 2006); therefore, if this is by Thomas Sandby, or anyone else, then it must have been made in 1760 or later. The principal feature which these two maps have in common with each other, and with no other plans of the battle in this collection, is the delineation of the roads or tracks which are identical in both maps and many of which do not occur on the others.
