[a triumphal arch, enveloped, top, in a sunburst, carries several inscriptions. From the top left:] La force / supreme / des Dieux / S'arme / pour la / bonne Cau /se; [a cherub perches on a lintel, right, holding a scroll on which is written:] Neptune / Vous est / favorable. [Bottom centre, a seraph, trumpet in left hand, holds with the other a note of the Duke of Cumberland's birth date, wrongly given, even in Old Style, as 6 April 1721. Below the seraph, a seated female figure holds an open book on which is written;] S.A.R. / le Duc / de / Cumberl / remporte / une Victoi / re memo / rable et / jamais / à / Culo / den. [Bottom left of the arch, an urn carries the inscription:] Trophée / des Ennemis. [On the plinth is an address to the Duke:] Tes Actions et Tes / Vertus O Prince! / seront gravée dans / la pierre et le / Marbre. [To the right of the plinth, a standing female figure with cornucopia in right arm and olive branch in left hand, with, to her left, leaning against the arch, a table on which is written:] Les Peu = / ples fidelles / de Londres. / randent / par leurs / allegresse un / hommage / dü au / Vainqueur. [The base of the arch is surrounded by the artefacts of war and French trophies, including right, a cockerel (symbol of France) straining to escape its chains. A soldier lying prone, a sword in right hand, with, to his right, an inscription:] Ta ne parvien = / dras pas à / les injustes / Desirs. [The whole is framed by a larger arch, in the supporting columns of which are hung representations of Louisbourg, Culloden, a naval victory in Brittany, and Cape Breton. Overlooking the whole design is the Eye of Providence, or the all-seeing eye of God.]
