The Battle of Alamance takes its name from Great Alamance Creek near which it was fought; it was the final action in the so-called War of Regulation – a local conflict between citizens and colonial officials in North Carolina about taxation. It was fought between about 1,000 militia from Colonial North Carolina and 2,000 'Regulators'.
The geographical co-ordinates in the heading are given for the Alamance Battleground Historic Site.
