Map of the siege of Stralsund, 1715 (Stralsund, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany) 54°18'32"N 13°04'54"E

1715 or later

Pen, ink and watercolour on paper; gilt edges | Scale: 1:11,700 approx. | RCIN 726090

A map of the siege of Swedish-held Stralsund, under the command of Charles XII of Sweden (1682-1718) from 12 July-24 December 1715, by Danish, Saxon and Prussian troops commanded by the Danish General Carl Rudolf, Duke of Württemberg-Neuenstadt (1667-1742), resulting in an Allied victory. Great Northern War (1700-1721). Oriented with north-east to top.

This map shows the detail of the fortifications, together with the layout of the siege trenches to the south-east and south-west of Stralsund, and the lines of circumvallation. There is no explanation to the letters on the map.

This map has been removed from a volume, made about 1719 or later, of manuscript maps and plans of sieges. Other maps, perhaps in a different hand but, apparently from the same volume, are scattered throughout the collection: RCINs [724061], [724090], 725007, 725009, 725011, 725013, 725021, 725023, 725027, 725030, 725032, 725041, [725044], 725045, 725047, [725055], 725074, 725087, 725098, 726007, 726014, 726022, 726041, 726045, 726053, 726065, 726073, 726080, 726086, 727004, 727007, 727011, 727013, 727014.
