Order of battle at Culloden, 1746 (Culloden Moor, Highland Region, Scotland, UK) 57°28'00"N 04°05'00"W
c.1746Pencil, pen, ink and watercolour on paper | 34.8 x 28.0 cm (image) | RCIN 730018
This shows the same details, with one exception, and repeats the note, as RCIN 730017. The exception is the omission of the squadron of Kingston's Horse to each side of the third line. The army is placed in three lines of six, five and three regiments, with a group of three squadrons to each side of the front. The Duke's name does not appear. Two pieces of field artillery are shown between each of the battalions on the first line; two groups of three mortars are shown in the second line, one between Ligonier's and Wolf's and the other between Fleming's and Bligh's.
The colouring of the regimental rectangles is the reverse of convention: the thickened line and colour of the facings of the uniform which usually indicate the front of the formation is here placed facing backwards. The attribution to Schultz is made on stylistic grounds.
