A plan of Manila showing the attacks of the British combined forces on 6 October 1762. Seven Years War (1756-63): Anglo-Spanish War (1761-63). Oriented with north-east to top (cardinal points).

The successful British combined operations attack on the Spanish stonghold of Manila on 6 October 1762 was commanded by Brigadier-General William Draper (1721-87) and Rear-Admiral Samuel Cornish (c.1715-70). The Spanish opponents were commanded by Archbishop Manuel Antonio Rojo del Rio y Vieyra (1708-64; Governor-General of the Philippines) and Simón de Anda y Salazar (1701-76). The action was fought during the Anglo-Spanish War (1761-3) which was, in turn, a part of the Seven Years War. The city was returned to the Spanish after the Treaty of Paris (1763).

The fire from the ships' guns is shown reaching the Royal Bastion of St Diego which, together with the fire from a battery of eight guns, breached the Bastion on 3 October.
