A map of Trichinopoly and the French and British encampments between 1753 and 1755. Second Carnatic War (1749-54). Oriented with west to top.
Colonel Stringer Lawrence (6 March 1697-10 January 1775) served from 1727-66; he saw action at the Battle of Culloden and in the three Carnatic Wars. Between 1757 and 1759 he was in North America at Wandiwash and Fort George. He became in 1761 Commander-in-Chief of the British Army in India, serving with the British East India Company.
