Engraving; printed on paper; mounted on paper (Mount Type B) | 22.3 x 31.4 cm (image and sheet) | RCIN 723127.a

A middle to high oblique view of the Battle of St Gotthard (also known as the Battle of Mogersdorf), fought on 1 August 1664 by the combined forces of the League of the Rhine (France and the Holy Roman Empire) and Piedmont Savoy, commanded by Raimondo, Count of Montecúccoli (1609-80), Jean de Coligny-Saligny (1617-86) and Prince Georg Friedrich of Waldeck (1620-92) against the Ottoman army, commanded by Köprülüzade Fazil Ahmed Pasha (1635-76), resulting in a victory for the League of the Rhine. Oriented with north to top. Habsburg-Ottoman Wars (Fourth Austro-Turkish War) (1663-4).

Another print, very similar in content and design but in German, was published in Vienna [1664 or later] by Matthäus Lorenz Leopold Ultzmayer (Digitales Archiv Marburg HstAM WHK 1/18). It is possible that 723126.a is a copy of the Austrian print. See the copy in the Digitales Archive Marburg (last accessed 2 December 2017).
