A map of the Battle of Sainte-Foy, fought on 28 April 1760 between the British, commanded by Brigadier-General James Murray (later Governor of Quebec; 1722-94), and the French, commanded by François Gaston de Lévis (1719-87), commander of the French forces in North America, resulting in a French victory. French and Indian War (1754-63). Oriented with north to top.
Following the occupation of Quebec by Murray in September 1759, the French, in April 1760, landed to the west of the city near Lorette and Sainte-Foy. Murray marched out of Quebec to meet them on 28 April; outnumbered, Murray retreated back to Quebec which was then besieged by a French army of 15,000. The siege was lifted with the arrival in May of a British naval squadron.
