A high oblique view and map of the Battle of Herbsthausen (near Mergentheim), fought on 5 May 1645 between the Bavarian-Imperial army, commanded by Field Marshal Franz von Mercy (d.3 August 1645) and the French, commanded by Henri de la Tour d'Auvergne (11 September 1611-27 July 1675), resulting in a Bavarian-Imperial victory. Thirty Years War (1618-1648). Oriented with west to top.

A slightly different engraving of this image was published in vol.5 (1647) of Merian's Theatrum Europeaum and between pages 714 and 715 of the 1651 edition and between pages 570 and 571 of the 1707 edition.
