A view of Gustavus Adolphus (19 December 1594-16 November 1632) and the Swedish army passing through Frankfurt am Main on 17 November 1631. Thirty Years War (1618-1648).
This view looks towards the north-north-west, with the castle of Konigstein (Königstein im Taunus (50°10'64"N 08°28'17"E) in the left distance, and Cronberg (Kronberg 50°11'03"N 08°31'24"E) below it. It shows the King of Sweden on horseback, bottom left, riding with his army through the fort of Sachsenhausen and across the bridge over the Main, into Frankfurt. A ship carrying some of the Swedish artillery and ammunition can be seen to the right.
This view was included between pages 448 and 449 in vol.II of Merian’s Theatrum Europaeum which was first published in 1633.

Condition: two fold lines to print; creased; brown discolouration; some foxing; pressure marks from the mounts of items which were kept above and below this print in a different collection are present on the recto and verso
