Etching and engraving; printed on paper | 26.5 x 33.7 cm (neatline) | RCIN 722071

A medium/high oblique view of the order of battle of the opposing armies at the Battle of Lützen, fought on 16 November (N.S.) 1632 between the Protestant Swedish army, commanded by Gustavus Adolphus (9 December 1594-16 November 1632) and the Catholic Holy Roman Empire commanded by Albrecht von Wallenstein (24 September 1583-25 February 1634), resulting in a Protestant victory at the cost of the death of the Swedish king. Thirty Years War (1618-1648). Oriented with north-west to top.

This view appears to be a re-engraved copy (or vice-versa) at a slightly smaller size of the view which appeared in Merian's Theatrum Europaeum (see RCIN 722070.a). The key to the letters and numbers on the view can be seen at RCIN 722070.b.
