A low-medium oblique view of the Battle of Wittenweier, fought on 9 August 1638 between the French and Swedish (Protestant), commanded by Bernard of Saxe-Weimar (16 August 1604-18 July 1639) and the Imperial army commanded by Field Marshal Count Johann von Götz (1599-6 March 1645) and Field Marshal Federigo Duca di Savelli (d.19 December 1649), resulting in a Protestant victory. Thirty Years War (1618-1648).

In the foreground the massed baggage wagons of the Imperial army which were abandoned when the train drivers fled the scene can be seen.
