Map of encampment at Alden Biesen, 1747 (Alden Biesen, Limburg, Belgium) 50°50'30"N 05°31'14"E
c.1747Pencil, pen, ink and watercolour on paper; laid down on linen | Scale: not stated. 1:32,300 approx. | RCIN 730127
The attribution to Caroline Scott is made on stylistic grounds. The title appears to be written in a different hand. This is a very rough sketch showing the general disposition of the encampment in relation to surrounding settlements and to the route network. The rendering of the terrain, though sketchy in appearance, gives a quite faithful representation of the general lie of the land, especially in respect of the sunken approaches to the south-east of the castle of Alden-Biesen (the Commandery).
Condition: no fold lines; brown staining; corners rounded after being laid down on linen. Verso: induced discolouration and brown staining.
