This is a detailed engraving of the town, fortified by Vauban, naming streets and selected buildings, and showing the outskirts and the attack works, batteries, and lines of fire. There is no key to the Roman numerals on the map. The siege of Tournai was the prelude to the Battle of Fontenoy on 11 May.
