The map shows the area to the west and north-west of Douai with part of the line of circumvallation, and the infantry encampments (marked in red) in one line and the cavalry (yellow) in two lines. Named villages include Vitry (Vitry-en-Artois 50°19"35"N 02°58"47"E), Berbierres (Brebières 50°20'00"N 03°01'00"E), Querry (Quiéry-la-Motte 50°21'57"N 02°58'41"E) where Marlborough had his headquarters, Beaumont (50°23'23"N 02°58'12"E), Henninlietard (Hénin-Beaumont 50°24'48"N 25°57'53"E).
Condition: one fold line. Verso: repaired along fold with paper strip before being laid down on linen; central fold cracked - may be two pieces of paper joined, not easy to see, but watermarks may prove this point; bottom, right of centre, water-stained patch from the removal of cumberland's cipher label.
