A map of the siege of Douai, 23 April to 26 June 1710, by the Allied army (Great Britain, Dutch Republic, Austria), commanded by John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough (1650-1722), resulting in the surrender of the town by the French. War of the Spanish Succession (1701-14). Oriented with north to top.

The map extends from Lens (50°25'58"N 02°49'40"E) in the north-west to Orchy (Orchies 50°28'00"N 03°14'00"E) in the north-west, and from Monchy le Preux (50°16'13"N 02°53'35"E) in the south-west to Féchin (50°15'59"N 03°12'36"E) in the south-east and shows the great extent of the flooded valley of the River Scarpe.

Condition: two fold lines. Verso: top left, water-stained patch, shadow and ghosting from the removal of Cumberland's cipher label.
