The manuscript annotations by Daniel Paterson are drawn on the 1784 printing of Carington Bowles's Pocket Plan of London which was first published in 1773 (Howgego no.158a(6), p.127). A manuscript key in the bottom margin explains the symbols for encamped battalions, stations, posts, guards, picquets and detachments, and show the routes of the Horse Patrols in blue, and the Foot Patrols in red.
