A view of the French assault on Comines in 1658, commanded by Henri de la Tour d'Auvergne vicomte de Turenne (1611-75) in which Claude Lamoral, 3me prince de Ligne (1618-79), a nobleman of the Spanish Netherlands in the service of Philip IV of Spain, was defeated. Franco-Spanish War (1636-59). Oriented with south-east to top.

This view was one of the plates of Sébastien Pontault de Beaulieu's Les Glorieuses Conquetes de Louis le Grand which was published by his niece, Reine de Beaulieu, in 1694. An example of the view, with borders and an upper portrait pasted to it, is at RCIN 723027.1.af
