A view of the beginning of the action between the British and Danish fleets at Copenhagen on 2 April 1801. French Revolutionary Wars (1792-1802).

It was at this battle that Vice-Admiral Sir Horatio Nelson famously ignored Rear-Admiral Sir Hyde Parker's order to withdraw, turning his blind eye to the signal and going on to destroy a number of enemy ships before a truce was agreed. This view shows the two fleets in line, with the buildings of Copenhagen in the background.

One of a pair of prints, the companion is at RCIN 735092.
