The rectangles which represent each corps of infantry or cavalry are coloured according to the colours of the uniform jackets and facings. The right of the line is at the left of the plan, indicating that the narrow strip of colour in each rectangle is the front of the line. Since the uniform of the Camberwell corps, as described in Blanch (1875) was a blue jacket with scarlet facings (collar, cuffs) it is clear that the narrow band of colour in the rectangle represents the facings of the uniform.

Representing the whole of the / MANUAL, PLATOON, & FUNERAL / Exercise, / IN 87 PLATES. / Designed & Etched by T, Rowlandson, / and Dedicated by Permission / to His Royal Highness the / DUKE of GLOCESTER by Ackermann, shows a red jacket with gold lace and black facings with white breeches and a black hat with red and gold trimming and white plume. This plate can be found at RCIN 1083413.
The author of this plan, Henry Smith, became Colonel of the Camberwell Volunteer Corps and had been a Captain in the Honorable Artillery Company. The plan bears what appears to be his signature and it is possible that he presented it to George III.
