Order of battle of the Hanoverian army, 1729 (Pferdeturm, Hanover, Lower Saxony, Germany) 52°22ʹ20ʺN 09°46ʹ50ʺE
1729 or laterPencil, pen, ink and watercolour on paper; laid down on coarse linen | 32.7 x 57.3 cm (image and neatline) | RCIN 727029
The site of this review was on the heathlands to the east of Hanover, in the area of the Eilenriede forests, in the vicinity of the Pferdeturm, a medieval tower. It was probably one of several military reviews undertaken by George II during his first visit to Hanover as King of Great Britain in the summer of 1729.
The General Officers are named as General Feld Marchal [von Bülow], Lieutenant-Generals Melvil and Hardenberg; Major-Generals Hasbergen, Campen; Brigadiers Wend, Schwaan, Wurm, Pontpitain. The regiments are named and the regimental rectangles appear to be coloured according to the jackets and facings of the uniforms.
Condition: one fold line; surface dirt along right edge of recto, and left edge of verso.
