A combined map and high oblique view of the western side of the Venetian fortress of Candia, showing the Ottoman siege works, with the trenches and saps, and the unsuccessful French relief force, commanded after the death of Morosini in June by the Venetian Alvise II Mocenigo (1628-1709), bombarding the Turkish troops on 24 July 1669 during the final phase of the long Ottoman siege, begun in 1648 and continuing until the city capitulated on 27 September 1669.
