A middle oblique view of the naval Battle of Saint-Martin de Ré, fought on 15 September 1625 between the Huguenot fleet of La Rochelle, commanded by Admiral Jean Guiton (2 July 1585-15 March 1654) and Admiral Benjamin de Rohan, Duke of Soubise (1580-1642) and the royal French fleet, commanded by Louis XIII (27 September 1601-14 May 1643), Charles de Lorraine, 4th Duke of Guise (2 august 1571-30 September 1640), Henri II de Montmorency (1595-30 October 1632) and Admiral Willem de Zoete, Heer Haultain (1565-26 September 1637) resulting in a royalist victory and the re-taking of the Île de Ré by Catholic forces. Huguenot Rebellions or Rohan Wars (1625). Oriented with south to top.

This view shows the sinking of several of the ships of the Huguenot La Rochelle fleet (marked 'S B', perhaps for Soubise), the sails of the French Catholic ships and some of the Dutch vessels sport a fleur-de-lys while the Duke of Soubise can be seen at the top of the print, jumping from his ship into a rowing boat and fleeing back to La Rochelle.
