Etching; printed on paper | Scale: 1:9,676. | RCIN 722137

A map of the encampment of the English army, under Charles I (19 November 1600-30 January 1649), near Berwick-upon-Tweed in May-June 1639. First Bishops' War (1639). Oriented with south to top (compass rose).

This map is a companion to the print at RCIN 722136. The encampment was just south-west of Berwick and the Scottish army camp was a few miles to the north-west, at Duns, the direction to which is indicated top right of the map, where the route goes through Fissick (Fishwick).

The First Bishops' War was ended by the Treaty of Berwick which was signed on 18 June 1639, while the king was still encamped there with his army, in the tents marked A on this print.
