A plan of the siege of Spanish-controlled Luxembourg (27 April-7 June 1684), by the French, commanded by Marshal François de Créquy (1625-87) and Sébastien Le Prestre, marquis de Vauban (1633-1707), resulting in a French victory. War of the Reunions (1683-4). Oriented with south to top.
The plan shows the outlines of the city and buildings in surrounding settlements in red ink. Siege works, encampments (with regimental names), positions of batteries and redoubts, together with the wall of circumvallation, are drawn in black ink. Two divergent grids are superimposed on the plan. One is drawn in red ink (a different red to that used for the plan) and the other is in black ink and pencil. The squares of these grids are not uniform in size and any purpose they may have had, apart from copying, is not known.
