Matteo Gregorio Dé Rossi (1638-1702)
Naval battle fought on 8-10 July off the island of Santorini between the Venetian fleet, commanded by the Captain-General Alvise II Leonardo Mocenigo (1616-1691), and the Ottoman fleet under Kapudan pasha Hosambegzade Ali Pasha resulting in a Venetian victory. Cretan War (Fifth Ottoman-Venetian War 1645-1669).
The etcher, Matteo Gregorio De Rossi, would have been twelve or thirteen years old at the time of this action.
