A view of the Royal catholic siege of Protestant Nîmes in 1622 resulting in the capitulation of the town. Huguenot Rebellions or Rohan Wars (1620-22). Oriented with west to top.

This view shows the siege of Nîmes being prosecuted by the forces of Louis XIII who have constructed a defensive wall around the eastern side of the town. Four batteries of between five and six cannon each stand ready to bombard the walls. Following the Treaty of Montpellier (see RCIN 722009) Nîmes was allowed to preserve half of her fortifications, the remainder were destroyed.

One fold line to mount which coincides with the central fold line of the print; pressure marks from the mounts of items which were kept above and below this print in a different collection are present on the recto and verso but are more visible on the verso
