A combination high oblique view and plan of Perpignan, besieged from April 1642 by French-Catalan forces, commanded by Charles de la Porte, duc de la Meilleraye (1602-8 February 1664) and surrendered on 9 September. Catalan Revolt (1640-1659). Oriented with south-south-east to top.
Delmont records (p.19) that Louis XIII, accompanied by Marshals Meilleraye and Schomberg (Charles de Schomberg, duc d'Halluin (16 February 1601-6 June 1656) made a reconnaissance around Perpignan on the 26 April and that (p.22) the Governor signed the Act of capitulation on 29 August and marched out of the town, surrendering it to the French-Catalan forces on 9 September (not 9 August as mentioned in the title of this print).
Another example of this print (Bibliothèque nationale de France, GE BB-246 (XV,224-225RES) ) shows that the decorative border which once surrounded it has been trimmed off RCIN 723011 leaving only the inner narrow section. The BnF example, while retaining the blank space for the missing date in the title, has the engraved numbers in the section of text: 'Et dans la Ville Commandoient les Sieurs' which are absent in RCIN 723011; these numbers, in order of appearance, are: '1600 hōmes d'infanterie'; '200 de Cauallerie' and '600 armes et bagages'.
