A middle-oblique view of the Battle of Chudnov (Cudnów) fought between 27 September and 2 November 1660 between the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth supported by the Crimean Khanate, commanded by Stanisłow Potocki (1579-1667) and Jerzy Sebastian Lubomirski (1616-1667) and the combined forces of Russia and the Ukranian Cossacks, commanded by Vasily Sheremetev (1622-1682), resulting in a decisive Polish victory. Russo-Polish War (1654-1667).
The George III catalogue and George III heading are in error in dating the event shown in this print to 1649. All the features shown on the print are consistent with the battle fought in 1660. At the centre of the print is the Russian camp. It is surrounded by the troops of the Polish Commonwealth with the forces of the commanders Lubomorski shown to the left, and those of Potocki (here rendered as 'Poroski'), bottom centre. The trenches and batteries of their allies, the Crimean Tatars under Sultan Safer Giray, and Cossacks under Vyhovsky, are shown top and right.
