A view of the Battle of Mongiovino, fought on 6 September 1643 between the Tuscan army, fighting in a League of Tuscany, Venice and Modena under the command of Mattias de' Medici (9 May 1613-11 October 1667) on the side of the Farnese Dukes of Parma and Castro, and the Papal army, commanded by Cardinal Antonio Barberini (5 August 1607-3 August 1671), resulting in a Farnese victory. FirstWar of Castro (1641-1644).
The print shows the walled town of Mongivino at the summit of a steep hill, with Barberini troops approaching up the slopes, and the Tuscan army in the foreground with the Medici arms emblazoned on the wagons.
