A view of the Battle of Poltava, fought on 8 July 1709 between the Russians, commanded by Peter I (the Great; 1672-1725) and Field Marshal Aleksandr Danilovich Menshikov (1673-1729), and the Swedes, commanded by Charles XII (1682-1718) and Field Marshal Carl Gustav Rehnskiöld (1651-1722), resulting in a Russian victory. Great Northern War (1700-1721).

The old catalogue entry refers to ‘Two views’ of the Battle but only one view is present in the collection. This view was made either by Nicolas II de Larmessin (1640-1725) or Nicolas III de Larmessin (1684-1755).
