? PRINCE WILLIAM AUGUSTUS, DUKE OF CUMBERLAND (1721-65)

Order of battle at Culloden, 1746

Order of Battle april 16th, 1746

c.1746

Pencil, pen, ink and watercolour on paper | 37.3 x 30.4 cm (image and sheet) | RCIN 730019

An order of battle at Culloden, 1746. Jacobite Rebellion (1745-6).

This very rough diagram shows what appears to be a preliminary view, with several crossings out, of the proposed order of battle at the top of the sheet, below which is a more finished rendering, though still with crossings out: for example, Brigadier Gen Huske has been altered to Maj Gen Huske. The Duke of Cumberland is shown at the head. The attribution to the Duke of Cumberland is tentatively made and is based on the similarity of the script; regimental names have been added in a hand resembling that of Schultz.

Condition: eight fold lines. Verso: surface dirt along fold lines.
