A map of the action near Porto Novo on 1 July 1781 in which the British army, commanded by Lieutenant-General Sir Eyre Coote (1726-83), defeated the army of Hyder Ally. Second Anglo-Mysore War (1780-84). Oriented with west-north-west to top (cardinal points).

Condition: two fold lines; creased; a strip of strengthening paper pasted to the verso of the left and right edges; surface dirt along right edge. Verso: heavy surface dirt along right and left edges, consistent with the map having been rolled; a few ink spots; small repair to centre of bottom edge.
