A map of Negapatam, the capital of Dutch Coromandel. Its 8,000-strong garrison, commanded by Reynier van Vlissingen and Hyder Ali, was besieged from 21 October by a British force of 4,443 under the command of General Hector Munro (1725/6-1805) and Admiral Sir Edward Hughes (c.1720-94). The garrison surrendered on 11 November. Fourth Anglo-Dutch War (1780-84); Second Anglo-Mysore War (1780-84). Oriented with west to top.

Condition: one fold line. Verso: heavy surface dirt, the map appears to have been lying face down with another item, perhaps with a flap or tie, on top, the shape of which is outlined by the dirt [dust from coal fires?].
