A map of the Battle of Sholingur, fought on 27 September 1781 by the British, commanded by Lieutenant-General Sir Eyre Coote (1726-83) who defeated the army of Hyder Ally. Second Anglo-Mysore War (1780-84). Orientation north-west to top (cardinal points).

Sir Eyre Coote's account of the battle appears in Wilson 1882, vol. II. pp.43-9.

Additional text: [bottom left, a descriptive key, a-i, k-t:] REFERENCE [and a recapitulation of the strength of the British army and returns of the killed, wounded and missing:] REMARKS.

Condition: two fold lines; creased; edges frayed and torn; large tears repaired with paper on verso, date of repair unknown; heavy surface dirt along right edge. Verso: heavily marked with surface dirt.
