A map of the Battle of Seringapatam (also known as the Battle of Arakere), fought on 15 May 1791, between the British (British East India Company's Madras army, and Allied forces from the Nizam of Hyderabad), commanded by Charles, First Marquess Cornwallis (1738-1805), Governor-General of India, and the Mysorean army, commanded by Tipu Sultan (1750-99), resulting in a British victory. Third Anglo-Mysore War (1789-92). Oriented with north to top.
The map faces the first, unnumbered page [Sig: B at bottom] of the Narrative of the British Operations in India (1792). A full acount of the action, which took place at Arkere near Seringapatam, is given in this accompanying letterpress text (see also RCIN 735002.1). Also bound in with the map and text is an order of battle of the Indian army commanded by Cornwallis (RCIN 735002.2).
