Map of the siege of Wismar, 1715-16 (Wismar, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany) 53°53'35"N 11°27'10"E

A map of the siege of Wismar (25 June 1715-19 April 1716) in 1715, by a combined Danish, Prussian and Hanoverian army commanded by the Danish General Franz Joachim von Dewitz (1666-1719) and another Danish General Friedrich von Legardt, who was under the orders of the Prussian General George Friedrich von der Albe (1662-1717), resulting in the capitulation of the Swedish-held town. Great Northern War (1700-1721). Oriented with west-south-west to top (compass rose).

This map illustrates the topography of the immediate surroundings of Wismar as a combination of marshy, wet lowlands, distinguishing these by a greenish colour from the drier, lighter areas in between. The fortifications are shown in some detail, with the lines of the two wings of the army to the north-east and north-west of the town.

The area covered extends from Hufen (Hoben 53°55'05"N 11°24'20"E) in the north-west to Fischkaten (53°56'01"N 11°29'01"E) in the north-east, and from Wehlsdorf (possibly Metelsdorf 53°51'00"N 11°25'59"E) in the south-west to Grehse (Greese 53°52'09"N 11°31'43"E) in the south-east.

This map has been removed from a volume, made about 1719 or later, of manuscript maps and plans of sieges.
