A map showing the positions of the Danish and Swedish fleets in the entrance to Greifswalder Bay, July 1715. Great Northern War (1700-1721). Oriented with north to top (compass rose).

The action shown here was part of the Pomeranian Campaign of 1715-1716, in which an Allied army of Prussian, Danish and Saxon troops fought against the Swedes in the Swedish areas of northern Germany. This sketch, shows the Danish fleet, comprising ships of the line and flat barges and frigates, commanded by Vice Admiral Christian Thomesen Sehested (1664-1736).

The map shows the island of Grips Wals Oe (Greifswalder Oie 54°14'37"N 13°54'39"E) and the peninsula of ‘Iserhoved’ (Thiessow 54°16'38"N 13°42'56"E) on the island of Ruden.

Condition: one fold line; tears to top and bottom of fold repaired on verso with paper strips pasted to back. Verso: surface dirt.
