The naval Battle of Cartagena was fought on 28 February 1758 between a British fleet, under the command of Admiral Henry Osborn (bap.1694-1771) and a French fleet commanded by Michel-Ange Duquesne de Menneville (c.1700-78), resulting in a British victory. The British captured two French ships, among them the Foudroyant which had been destined with the rest of the French ships to go to the aid of Louisbourg.
This view shows three British ships, the Monmouth in the centre, directing fire to two French ships to the left, with two British ships, the Swiftsure and Hampton Court to the right.
