Ink and watercolour on paper | Scale: not stated: c.1:5,000. | RCIN 733058

A plan of the Battle of Wilhelmsthal fought on 24 June 1762 between the Allied army (British, Prussian, Hessian and Brunswickian troops) under the command of Field Marshal Duke Ferdinand of Brunswick, Prince of Brunswick-Lüneburg (1721-92), and the French, commanded by Charles de Rohan, prince de Soubise (1715-87), resulting in an Allied victory. Seven Years War (1756-63). Oriented with north? to top. This plan appears to be in the same hand as RCIN 733063.

This action was the southernmost of Ferdinand’s move to encircle the French army, and Granby's forces bore the brunt of the battle. The plan shows the disposition of the 1st and 2nd Regiments of Guards, the Grenadiers of the Guards, the Grenadiers of the Army, the Highlanders, and the Coldstream Regiment. The key describes the actions of the Royal Grendadiers in preventing a French flanking action from seriously damaging the English Line.
