A map of the encampments of the Allied and French armies on the banks of the Lahn on 28 September 1762. Seven Years War (1756-63). Oriented with south-west to top (cardinal points).

The geographical area covered is framed by a line running from Elmshausen (50°51'33"N 08°36'55"E) to Homberg (50°43'51"N 08°59'47"E), and from Mittelsimtshausen (50°56'18"N 08°42'05"E) to Langenstein (50°49'54"N 08°57'31"E). The name of each regiment is written to the rectangles representing their positions, except for those of the French army.

Additional text: [top centre, below title, in title cartouche, describes the position of the piquets on the banks of the rivers Ohm and Lahn and the disposition of the troops comprising Wangeheims's, Granby's Reserve, and the main army. A key to the conventional signs representing the infantry, cavalry and artillery,and the colours representing Hanoverians (red), Brunswickians (yellow), Hessians (pale blue) and French (lavender) is drawn in a simple cartouche, bottom left.]

Condition: six fold lines; formerly folded to 17.5 x 14.5 cm; surface dirt on both sides.
