Pencil, pen, ink and watercolour on paper; laid down on linen | Scale: not stated. 1:9,000 approx. | RCIN 732014

A map of encampment of the German army at Neuhaus, 1757. Seven Years War (1756-63). Oriented with west to top.

This appears to be a sketch for the finished plan which appears at RCIN 732201.j. It is drawn to a larger scale and contains details which do not appear in the final version such as the locations of broken bridges, and the march routes of the first and second columns. The map is annotated, bottom left: ‘26th of May / rec by L. Coll. Keppell'. This was probably William Keppel (1727-82) who was appointed Colonel of the 56th Regiment of Foot on 17 December 1761. He became Commander-in-Chief, Ireland in 1773. The squadrons and battalions of the encamped regiments were: Saxe Gotha; Mansbach; Haudring; Hanau; Prince Anhalt; Oberg; Ledebour; Zastrow; Post; Zandré; Hardenberg; Kielmanseg; 2de B. Gardes; 1re B. Gardes; Train d’Art: // Leib. Dragoner; Leib-Regmt Prince Wilhelm; C. Isenburg; Gilten; Leib- Regmt; Heimburg; Bock.

Condition: one fold line; considerable foxing to both sides. Verso: top left, water-stained patch and fragment from the removal of Cumberland's cipher label: the linen backing has shrunk.
