A map of Fort Niagara and the British attack, 25 July 1759. French and Indian War (1754-63). Oriented with north to top (cardinal points).
The tentative attribution of the draughtsmanship to William Eyres is made more on the basis of the note on the verso which states that it was received from him, than on the style of the map which, though resembling his hand in some features, such as some of the lettering, is less convincing in others. The map shows the fort and outworks, the dockyard; the burying place; the approaches; the first and second batteries with six cannons; an eight-cannon battery; the small British retrenchment at the time of the action on 24 July; the British army camp and the Indian encampment.
? William Eyres (d. 1764) (draughtsman)
