The style of this map is somewhat clumsy compared with the finesses of Chamberlain's later work. He had only been admitted to the Tower Drawing Room in 1759 so this may have been an early piece of work. It was the usual practice for the draughtsmen to make copies of the work of others for further dissemination to the King, members of Government, and military officers.
Condition: no fold lines; creased. Verso: induced discolouration.
Patrick Mackellar (1717-78) (cartographer)
Thomas Chamberlain (active 1759-d.1794) (draughtsman) [bottom left, outside border:] Copyed from an Original Draw.g of P. Mackellar C. Engineer, by. Tho. Chamberlain.
