Map of the Battle of Minden, 1759 (Minden, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany) 52°17'00"N 08°55'00"E

1759 or later

Pencil, ink and watercolour on paper | Scale: not stated. 1:21,600 approx. | RCIN 732115.b

A plan of the Battle of Minden, fought on 1 August 1759 between the Allied army and the French, resulting in an Allied victory. Seven Years War (1756-63). Oriented with south-west to top (cardinal points).

A detailed plan, probably drawn by a member of the Allied army (more information is given about the Allies than the French), showing the movements of the battalions and squadrons of the Allied army; the names of the regiments are written beside the regimental rectangles of the Allied army, but not of the French.

The plan is drawn to a large enough scale for detail such as sunken roads, situated between the two front lines, to be shown. In the centre of the battle, French retrenchments and batteries, where the French formed into a square, are represented.
