The Seven Years War (1756-63)

Manuscript and printed maps and views, correspondence and journals from the first global war

? SIR DAVID DUNDAS (1735-1820)

Plan of Havana and Fort Morro, 1762 (Havana, Ciudad de La Habana, Cuba) 23°07'58"N 82°22'58"W; (Castillo del Morro, Ciudad de La Habana, Cuba) 23°09'00"N 82°21'00"W

c.1762

Pencil, ink and watercolour on paper | Scale: 1:2,400. | RCIN 733052

A plan of the British assault on Fort Morro, Havana, between 13 June and 30 July 1762. Seven Years War (1756-63). Oriented with east to top.

A highly finished plan showing the details of the fort, which were either copied from existing maps or were freshly surveyed following its capture. The old catalogue entry describes Dundas as an Engineer, but he had resigned the Engineers in 1759. It is possible that he was assigned as a temporary engineer for the purposes of this operation.
