This survey was presumably taken from the much earlier survey by John Armstrong, who was Surveyor-General to the Board of Ordnance from 1722 until his death in 1742 (Hogg, vol.2 Appendix II, p.1042). This example is the second state of the reissued plate (the first state is at RCIN 731077), with the additions of French batteries and lines of fire.
Dedication: [following on from title, in title cartouche:] To the Most High Puissant & Noble Prince / Charles Duke of Marlborough &c Master Gen.l of ye Ordnance, / Knight of the most Noble Order of the Garter, &c. &c. / This Plan, is most humbly Inscribed / by his Graces most Devoted & Obed.t hum.ble Serv.t / Jn.o Rocque / 1756.
